High-Accuracy Metal Analysis for Foundries
Foundries require precise and repeatable chemical analysis to maintain metal quality, control alloy composition, and reduce rejection rates. This case study highlights how VAS Spectrometers implemented Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) solutions to enable reliable, fast, and accurate metal analysis in a high- throughput foundry environment.
The customer faced challenges with inconsistent results, delayed decision-making, and dependency on external laboratories. The requirement was a robust in-house spectrometry solution capable of handling multiple alloy grades while maintaining compliance with industry standards.
What Did We Do
VAS Spectrometers conducted a detailed application study to understand the foundry’s material range, production workflow, and quality requirements. Based on this assessment, an Optical Emission Spectrometer was configured and installed to deliver high-precision elemental analysis.
Implemented OES-based metal analysis for ferrous and non-ferrous alloys with high repeatability.
Optimized calibration using certified reference materials to ensure accuracy and traceability.
Provided on-site installation, operator training, and method standardization for shop-floor use.
Integrated preventive maintenance and AMC support to ensure long-term performance and uptime.
The Results
After implementation, the foundry achieved consistent and reliable chemical analysis directly on the shop floor. Decision-making time was significantly reduced, enabling faster production cycles and improved quality control.
Improved alloy consistency and reduced material rejection.
Faster in-house analysis eliminating dependency on external laboratories.
Long-term operational stability supported by AMC and expert technical support from VAS Spectrometers.
